Rep. Angie Craig was assaulted in the elevator of her D.C. apartment building Thursday morning, the Minnesota Democrat’s office said in a statement.
“Rep. Craig defended herself from the attacker and suffered bruising, but is otherwise physically okay,” said her chief of staff, Nick Coe.
Craig’s office said the attack did not appear to be politically motivated. The representative called 911, but her assailant fled the scene. A D.C. police spokesperson told The Washington Post no arrest has been made.
